All over the world, animals of all different shapes and sizes live in cities. However, as our cities expand, more and more types of animals must either adapt to city life or be pushed out of their homes.

Scientists call the natural home where plants, animals and other organisms live a “habitat.” For animals to survive in their habitat, they must have access to food, shelter and clean air and water.
While many animals are pushed out of their homes when cities expand, others have learned to adapt. For example, monkeys are thriving in cities like New Delhi, India, where people feed them and they are protected from natural predators. Similarly, in many North American cities, rodents, like rats and mice, thrive as do certain birds, like falcons, who eat them. As cities expand into the wilderness, animals must adapt or perish.
